GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ursinus College came out swinging in its Centennial Conference opening match at Gettysburg College, but the host Bullets racked up a season-high 13 aces and swept the final three sets to pick up a 3-1 victory inside Bream Gym Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (6-4, 1-0 CC) improved to 37-0 all-time against Ursinus (3-7, 0-1 CC). The Bears led by as many as six in the opening set before holding on for a 27-25 win. The Bullets came back with a vengeance in the final three contests, including jumping out to a 13-point lead (21-8) in the final set. Gettysburg won the last three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-13.
The hosts topped their previous season high for aces by one as senior
Katie Wilson and freshman
Hannah Bentz combined for nine. Wilson also came up with a match-high 15 digs.
Junior
Kelly Milione led the attack with a dozen kills and added 11 digs for her team-best fourth double-double of the season. Classmate
Sarah Gorski and sophomore
Cydney Bracken tallied 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior
Courtney Cyr logged six kills and four total blocks.
Freshman
Kate DeLess dished out a season-high 23 assists, while junior
Lizzy Kuhn totaled 18 assists.
Anahi McIntyre led Ursinus with 13 kills. Kristin Hanratty added a dozen kills and Leah Masiello posted two aces and 14 digs.
Gettysburg returns to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Dickinson College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
