Box Score
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore
Christian Pyros made his first collegiate goal a memorable one, scoring off a rebound in the 75th minute to lift the Gettysburg College men's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory over the University of Mary Washington Wednesday evening at Clark Field.
Gettysburg improved to 3-3 with the win while the Eagles slipped to 4-3.
Prior to the goal, junior
Tyler Shaffer was awarded a direct kick from just beyond the top-left corner of the 18. Shaffer rocketed a shot off the left post and it ricocheted back out to the top of the box, where a waiting Pyros drilled the ball past Mary Washington keeper Tyler Back for the game's lone goal.
Junior
Connor Darrell made four saves for the Bullets to pick up his seventh career shutout and his second of the season. He was particularly impressive in the second half, denying a shot from point-blank range in the 56th minute and turning aside back-to-back shots in the 76th minute following the team's goal.
Back finished with six saves, including an acrobatic stop in the 25th minute.
Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, when it visits Washington College in a 7 p.m. start.
