CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson scored on its only shot of the first half and then held off Gettysburg in the final period for a 1-0 victory in Centennial Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Dickinson (6-1, 1-1 CC) survived early behind goalie Annie Weichert, who registered five of her match-high eight saves in the opening period. Weichert turned away a pair of shots by senior
Casey Attanasio in the 18th and 24th minutes.
Just before the end of the first half, the Red Devils picked up the contest's first goal as Marissa Kunkle scored with exactly one minute left before the break. The goal ended freshman
Eliza Gray's season-opening shutout streak at 393:37.
Gray kept the deficit at one with all four of her saves in the second half. In the 79th minute, she picked up back-to-back stops on shots by Olivia Licata and Marissa Kunkle.
Gettysburg (4-2, 1-1 CC) fired off four shots in the final 11 minutes of play with the last two attempts by freshman
Lauren Schapiro and
Becca Kent falling into the hands of Weichert.
The visitors led in total shots 13-8, while the hosts led in corner kicks 4-2.
Gettysburg returns to action this weekend with a road trip to Washington College on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m.
