CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College tallied the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute to get by visiting Gettysburg College 1-0 in Centennial Conference men's soccer action Saturday night.
Gettysburg (3-4, 0-2 CC) held an 11-4 advantage in shots and a 7-2 lead in corner kicks. Washington (2-3, 1-1 CC) goalie Tyler Cabot kept the Bullets off the board in the opening half with a pair of stops, while junior
Connor Darrell made a save on a shot by Brandon Wilfong with less than 10 minutes left in the period to preserve the shutout.
Washington ended the scoreless draw midway through the second half as George Gabriel's shot off the crossbar bounced into the net at 72:43.
Gettysburg tried to immediately answer as junior
James Rice fired a shot on goal less than two minutes later, but Cabot once again made the save. The Washington goalie would make his fourth and final save of the night on a shot by junior
Tyler Shaffer with just over six minutes to go.
Shaffer led Gettysburg with three shots, while Rice added a pair of attempts.
Gettysburg is scheduled to play at Johns Hopkins University on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 4 p.m.
