Liz Baron scored twice while senior
Hayward Sawers had a hand in each of Gettysburg's three goals as the Bullets defeated host York (Pa.) College 3-1 in a non-conference field hockey game Wednesday afternoon.
Senior
Megan Feeg made nine saves to push her career total over 200 for Gettysburg, which improved to 3-0 to start the season. Feeg stands at 10th in school history in career saves with 203.
Sawers finished with one goal and two assists. All of the game's scoring took place in the first half.
The Bullets never trailed after Baron scored just 2:21 into the contest on Sawers' first helper. York (1-2) tied it with 26:31 left in the opening half on a goal from Sandee Reich.
Baron put her team in front to stay when, on a penalty corner, she cashed in another feed from Sawers, making it 2-1 with 17:39 remaining in the period. Sawers provided an insurance tally 2:25 before the intermission when she tipped home a shot off the stick of senior
Emily Kleinburd.
Feeg made six of her saves in the opening half, when the Bullets held a slim 13-12 edge in shots. Gettysburg also outshot the Spartans 9-5 in the second half.
Brittany Alvarado played the first half for York and made three saves before Alanna Curtis stopped two shots over the final 35 minutes.
Gettysburg returns home on Saturday, when it hosts Cabrini College at 1 p.m. in another non-conference game.
