GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore
Kristen Olenick continued her fast start, scoring both of Gettysburg's goals as the Bullets defeated Cabrini College 2-0 in non-conference field action Saturday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
Olenick notched a pair of tallies seven minutes apart in the opening half as Gettysburg ran its record to 4-0. She has now scored a team-high six goals, striking in three of the team's four games. It was Olenick's second multi-goal output after netting three goals in the team's season opener.
Junior goalie Genevieve Paulin made 12 saves for Cabrini, which dropped to 0-4. Senior
Megan Feeg made four saves to earn her second shutout of the year for Gettysburg.
The two teams waited through a one-hour, 20-minute lightning delay midway through the second half with the scored tied 0-0. But with 14:30 left in the period, Olenick pounced on a deflected save and rifled home a shot from the right wing to give the Bullets all the scoring they would need.
With 7:34 remaining in the first half, a long pass by junior
Liz Baron got through the Cabrini goalie, who had come out to the top of the arc. Olenick raced to the loose ball and punched in a shot into a wide-open cage.
The Bullets held a slim 10-7 shot advantage in the opening half but turned up the heat in the second stanza, outshooting the Cavaliers 16-4. However, Paulin made eight of her saves in the final 35 minutes.
Gettysburg continues its three-game homestand on Tuesday, when it hosts 11th-ranked Catholic University in another non-conference game starting at 4:30 p.m.
