Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Will Gately picked an opportune time to net his first collegiate goal as Gettysburg knocked off the fifth-ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Neumann University, 1-0 at Clark Field on Saturday.

It was a slow start for both teams as all the shots fired in the first 30 minutes were well wide of the goals. Gettysburg (2-1) had a good look at the cage in the 34th minute following a free kick just outside the left of the box. Senior Dan McNamara's header was on target but fell right into the hands of Neumann (2-2) goalie Alex Lacko.

The Bullets hit the scoring column soon after with Gately passing up the field to junior James Rice. Rice drew the attention of the defense and touched a pass back out to his left to a streaking Gately. The sophomore carried the ball into the box and connected on a low shot past Lacko's out-stretched hands and inside the right post at 40:35.

Lacko made a pair of saves early in the second stanza to keep Neumann within striking distance. However, Gettysburg senior Jamie Hahn was solid in his first start of the campaign, jumping out to intercept several crosses into the box and picking up his only save on a shot by Dan Chrashewski in the 65th minute.

Neumann held a slight lead in shots (8-7) and corner kicks (3-2) in the contest.

Senior Evan Tinter led the Bullets with a pair of shot attempts.

Gettysburg will host No. 17 Messiah College in a non-conference affair on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.
