CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Drew Thompson scored in the 51st minute to lift Washington College past Gettysburg College 1-0 in a Centennial Conference men's soccer tilt Saturday evening.
Offense was hard to come by between Gettysburg (2-10-1, 2-3-1 CC) and Washington (7-6-1, 1-4-1 CC) in the first half as the two sides combined for only six shots. Thompson managed the only shot aimed between the pipes with goalie Connor Darrell (Cream Ridge, N.J./Allentown) posting a save in the 43rd minute.
After a pair of shots by the Bullets to open the second stanza, Thompson cracked the scoring column following a pass by Cody Gray at 50:03.
Gettysburg out-shot the hosts 8-7 in the final period with half of those attempts on goal. Goalie Jon Wendeborn was up to the challenge for the Shoremen, totaling four saves, including the last on a shot by senior Andrew McLane (Newtown, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) with just over one minute remaining in the contest.
The Bullets finished with a 12-9 advantage in shots and a 6-3 lead in corner kicks.
Darrell finished with three stops for the visitors. McLane fired off five shots, while senior Brooks Taylor (Nashville, Tenn./Taft School (Conn.)) tallied four attempts.
