GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Victor Osio scored in the 85th minute and Johns Hopkins University handed Gettysburg its first Centennial Conference loss of the season, edging the Bullets 1-0 in men's soccer action at Clark Field Wednesday night.
Standing in the right side of the box, Osio one-timed a cross from David Adejunmobi for his second goal of the season as the Blue Jays (3-6-1, 1-2 CC) picked up their first conference victory of the year while snapping a five-game losing streak.
Senior
Connor Darrell (Cream Ridge, N.J./Allentown) made four saves for the Bullets (2-7, 2-1 CC), who had entered the night in first place in the Centennial Conference standings. Matt Paris stopped three shots for Hopkins.
Gettysburg outshot the Blue Jays 13-11 for the game, including 7-4 in the first half. Midway through the period, Paris made a leaping save on a point-blank shot following a corner kick.
The Bullets also nearly scored in the 52nd minute, when senior
Andrew Bellis (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) headed a shot off the crossbar after taking a corner from classmate
Brooks Taylor (Nashville, Tenn./The Taft School [Conn.]).
Paris also made a big stop in the 72nd minute, swatting away a laser of a shot from senior
Andrew McLane (Newtown, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) from the top of the box.
Gettysburg continues its season on Saturday, when it visits 15th-ranked Swarthmore College at 7 p.m. in a Centennial Conference tilt.
