Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Devin Geiman (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) scored in the 27th minute to help the Gettysburg College men's soccer team secure a 1-1 tie at No. 15 Swarthmore College in Saturday night men's soccer action at Clothier Field.

Gettysburg (2-7-1, 2-1-1 CC) gave unbeaten Swarthmore (6-0-4, 2-0-2 CC) all it could handle on an unseasonably-warm October night. After a flurry of shots by the hosts in the opening 20 minutes, the visitors jumped on the board first as Geiman connected on a loose ball at the top of the box at 26:17.

The Garnet doubled Gettysburg's shot total in the opening half (10-5), but senior Connor Darrell (Cream Ridge, N.J./Allentown) posted three of his match-high six saves in the frame. Darrell's last stop in the 43rd minute helped preserve the one-goal lead heading into halftime.

Swarthmore cracked the scoring column early in the final period as Wyatt McCall converted a pass from Jack Momeyer in the 55th minute. Sophomore Noah Sheetz-Ziegel (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) tried to answer right back for the Bullets only to be thwarted by Garnet goalie Peter Maxted.

Maxted picked up two big saves down the final stretch of regulation, stonewalling both junior Parker Delmolino (Monroe, Conn./Fairfield Prep) and Sheetz-Ziegel on back-to-back shots in the 85th minute.

With no shots on goal in the first overtime session, both teams found the cage in the final 10 minutes. Swarthmore challenged Darrell twice with the senior keeper stopping both attempts cleanly, including the last by Geoff Stewart in the 108th minute.

Gettysburg nearly turned in a dramatic ending to the contest following a yellow card on a Garnet player. The ensuing free kick sailed into the box with Sheetz-Ziegel eventually connecting on a point-blank attempt. Maxted made a leaping save to his right to prevent the goal at 108:41.

Swarthmore finished with a 24-15 edge in shots and an 8-1 lead in corner kicks.

Sheetz-Ziegel led the Bullets with five shots, while Delmolino added four attemtps.

Gettysburg returns to action against Dickinson College on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m.
