SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Gettysburg College and Swarthmore College went toe-to-toe for 110 minutes with no team emerging as the victor in a scoreless draw in Centennial Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (7-1-3, 2-1-1 CC) out-shot Swarthmore (5-3-2, 1-2-2 CC) 22-14 in the contest, but the Bullets found no way around Garnet goalie Reba Magier, who recorded all nine of her saves in the final 65 minutes, including seven in the second half alone.
Sophomore Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) was on par with her opponent, stopping four shots in the opening half and three more in the second stanza. Less than a minute after a kick save by a Gettysburg defender, Gray stopped a shot by Emma Sindelar at 77:24. Gray posted her final save on a shot by Amber Famiglietti in the 87th minute to ensure extra time.
Gettysburg posted shots at the cage in each overtime period. Magier gobbled up a shot by senior Mallory Sheer (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) in the 100th minute and logged her final stop on an attempt by junior Brigid Behan (Newport, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) in the 103rd minute.
Gray, who leads the conference in GAA (0.36) and save percentage (.886) picked up her fifth shutout of the season.
Gettysburg returns to action at Dickinson College on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
