GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Six Bullets scored a goal and Gettysburg used a big second half for the second game in a row to beat Shenandoah University 6-1 in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

Gettysburg (6-4), which won its third game in a row, outscored the Hornets 5-0 in the second half to break a 1-1 tie at the intermission. This past Saturday, the Bullets trailed 2-0 early in the second stanza before rallying to top Swarthmore College 4-3 in a Centennial Conference game.

Senior Liz Baron (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge), freshman Hannah Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck), and senior Ashleigh Guise (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) notched one goal and one assist apiece for the Bullets, who outshot Shenandoah 19-7 and held a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.

It was the first official meeting between Gettysburg and the Hornets (5-8). The two teams squared off at Shenandoah last season, but the game was postponed due to lightning with 17 minutes left and was never finished.

Baron gave the Bullets a 1-0 less than three minutes into the game, blasting home a shot from 10 yards out on the left wing. Junior Lexie Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) passed the ball from the top to pick up the assist and her first collegiate point.

Gettysburg outshot the Hornets 11-6 for the half but was unable to score again. Ashley Cross knotted the score for Shenandoah when she struck on a mid-range shot from the right side with 45 seconds left to make it a 1-1 game heading into the break.

The Bullets wasted little time pulling away in the second stanza, when they outshot the Hornets 8-1. Senior Kelly Spieker (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) scored just over seven minutes into the period, cutting behind the goalie on a nice dish from Guise on the left side of the arc before shooting the ball into a wide-open cage. Four minutes later, Fitzgerald accepted a cross from Baron and buried her seventh goal of the season to make it 3-1.

Sophomore Mari Bigley (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) and Guise scored 52 second apart three minutes later as Gettysburg's lead ballooned to 5-1. Bigley connected from 10 yards out for her first collegiate goal with 20:48 remaining, and with 19:56 to go, Fitzgerald found herself in a breakaway and delivered a long pass to a waiting Guise on the left post. Guise controlled the ball before sending it through the goalie's legs for her second tally of the year.

Barbuto capped the scoring when she sent home a shot from just inside the left side of the arc with 12:08 remaining for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Senior Alexis Bralow (Philadelphia, Pa./Harriton) made two saves for Gettysburg while starting keeper Sarah Clare stopped three shots and allowed five goals over the opening 50:56 for Shenandoah. Katelyn Gregory made two saves and yielded one goal over the final 19:04.

The Bullets complete their five-game homestand on Saturday, when they host Bryn Mawr College at 1 p.m. in a Centennial Conference match-up.
