Fifth-ranked Bullets Blast Green Terror

Gettysburg scores season-high 21 goals

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Fifth-ranked Gettysburg turned in the first nine goals en route to its best offensive display of the season in a 21-10 victory at McDaniel College in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
 
Nine players reached the scoring column for Gettysburg (11-1, 5-0 CC) with five tossing in at least three goals. Senior Lindsey Robinson (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) posted nine points on four goals and five assists, while juniors Kelsey Markiewicz (Taconic, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.)), Loren Pruitt (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), and Katie Blumenthal (Malvern, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) and sophomore Mandy Buell (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) each scored three goals.
 
Paige Messersmith and Daniell Entrot each turned in four goals for McDaniel (6-6, 2-3 CC).
 
Gettysburg scored nine goals during an 11-minute stretch in the opening half. Robinson factored into four tallies, including an assist to Pruitt for the ninth score at 16:17.
 
The Messersmith and Entrot combined for all six Green Terror first-half goals with the latter's goal with 20 seconds remaining slicing the lead to 11-6. Sophomore Liz Cocchiola (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) scored with 11 seconds left in the first period to give the visitors a 12-6 advantage.
 
Gettysburg held at least a five-goal lead throughout the second half. Robinson capped her offensive output by handing out a pair of assists to Markiewicz to start a four-goal run to end the game.
 
Gettysburg topped its previous best scoring output of the year by one. The Bullets turned in 20 goals against Lynchburg on March 11. The squad missed on only 10 shots for a 67.7 shooting percentage. Gettysburg also posted a season-high 21 draw controls.
 
Junior Bailey Beardsley (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) posted two goals and two assists, while sophomore Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) dished out three assists for Gettysburg. Senior Mairead McGuirk (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) led the defensive effort with three ground balls, four draw controls, and one caused turnover.
 
Freshman Lindsay Clinton (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) tallied five saves to earn the win.
 
Gettysburg hosts Ursinus College on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m.
