Softball Swept at Haverford

Bullets fall to Fords 6-1 and 10-2

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College knocked Gettysburg College out of postseason contention by winning both ends of a Centennial Conference doubleheader on Saturday.
 
Gettysburg (17-21, 7-9 CC) needed to win both games to qualify for the conference playoffs. Haverford (23-11, 10-6 CC) dashed the Bullets' hopes by winning the opener 6-1. The Fords capped the sweep with a 10-2 decision in the nightcap.
 
Haverford used the longball to get in front in game one as Kristin Tatum smacked a three-run homer in the second inning and Jen DiCandilo added a solo shot in the third.  
 
Gettysburg picked up its only run on a fielder's choice by freshman Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) in the fourth inning. The Fords added a two-run home run by Dayle Comerford in the home half of the inning to set the final score.
 
Senior Joy Hallfors (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) went 3-for-4 to lead the Bullets in the first game.
 
The Bullets jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the nightcap. After the Fords scored in their opening at bat, Gettysburg scored two runs in the second on a double by senior Sam Bader (York, Pa./Central York) and an single by senior Lindsey Peragallo (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen).
 
Haverford would come right back by sending nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the frame, resulting in five runs. The Fords tacked on four more runs in the fifth to close the game.
 
Junior Maggie Maguire (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), sophomore Ashley Iannone (Great Meadows, N.J./Blair Academy), and Bader each tallied two hits for Gettysburg. Hallfors added one more hit in the nightcap to cap her career with a school-record 189.
