WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gettysburg College field hockey team was handed its first loss of the season, dropping a 5-0 decision at Catholic University in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday.
The Cardinals (2-1) took a 2-0 first-half lead, scoring 7:13 into the contest and again with 9:02 remaining. The hosts pulled away with a three-goal second half, striking twice over a five-minute span in the early going before setting the final score with 11:13 left.
Catholic outshot Gettysburg 26-11, though the Bullets (3-1) held a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Senior Alexis Bralow (Philadelphia, Pa./Harriton) made a career-high 11 saves for Gettysburg while Megan Comunale stopped six shots for the Cardinals.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday, when they visit Ursinus College at noon in their Centennial Conference opener.
