COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College scored four goals off penalty corners and the host Bears defeated the Gettysburg College field hockey team 5-1 in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams Saturday afternoon.
For the second game in a row, senior
Alexis Bralow (Philadelphia, Pa./Harriton) made a career-high 11 saves for Gettysburg (3-2, 0-1 CC). She played 56:43 and yielded all of Ursinus' goals. Freshman Megan Brady (Ledgewood, N.J./Roxbury) blanked the Bears over the final 13:17 while making three saves in her collegiate debut.
Megan Keenan led Ursinus (2-1, 1-0 CC) with one goal and two assists.
The Bears posted their first three goals in the opening 16:09. Keenan assisted on each of the first two, which came via corners. Senior
Erica Barbuto (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) put Gettysburg on the scoreboard when she registered her team-leading sixth goal of the season with 6:33 remaining in the half to make it a 3-1 game at the intermission.
Ursinus set the final score with 15:04 left, when it scored a pair of goals a minute apart. Corners led to each of the Bears' final two tallies.
Danielle DeSpirito made eight saves for Ursinus, which held a 35-14 shot advantage.
Gettysburg resumes action next Saturday, when it visits Washington College at 1 p.m. in another Centennial Conference tilt.
