GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Haverford scored the game's first two goals and the Fords held off the Bullets 3-1 in a Centennial Conference field hockey match-up Saturday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium during Homecoming weekend.
Bryn Bissey scored each of the first two goals for the Fords (5-3, 1-1 CC). She struck 5:13 into the game, then again with 10:52 left in the opening half.
Freshman
Hannah Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) cut the deficit in half for Gettysburg (3-4, 0-3 CC) with 5:26 remaining in the period. After breaking free for a breakaway down the right side of the field, she ripped a shot past Haverford goalie Lindsey Lopes and inside the left post for her fourth goal of the year.
It would remain a 2-1 game until Megan Holt gave the Fords an insurance tally with 8:52 left, firing in a shot from 10 yards out on the right wing.
The Fords finished with a 13-10 edge in shots while Lopes made four saves. Senior
Alexis Bralow (Philadelphia, Pa./Harriton) stopped five shots for the Bullets.
Gettysburg returns home on Tuesday, when it faces Stevenson University at 4:30 p.m. in a non-conference outing.
