Unlucky Bounce Takes Down Bullets

Bullets drop double overtime Centennial Conference thriller

Strong defense and late goal not enough to hold of Haverford
Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Just over three minutes into the second overtime period, a bouncing ball off a Gettysburg defender found the back of the net, and Haverford College handed the Bullets their first loss of the season with a 2-1 victory in Centennial Conference women's soccer action Saturday at Clark Field.

In the 15th minute an aggressive play on a high bouncing ball in the box led to a Haverford penalty kick. Elizabeth Newman calmly stepped up and placed the ball into the bottom right corner for the early 1-0 lead.

In the 63rd minute, Jill Baltz (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) headed a ball into the middle of the box which found Georgia Ferguson (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) on the receiving end to put the ball into the open net for her second of the season to tie things up at 1-1

The two teams remained scoreless through the remainder of regulation and the first overtime period. Early in the second overtime a foul on Gettysburg was called on the top right corner of the box.  Again Elizabeth Newman calmly stepped up and played a low cross into the box that deflected off a Gettysburg defender and into the back of the net.

Sophomore Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) finished the afternoon with five saves for the Bullets.

The loss drops the Bullets to 6-1-2 and 1-1 in conference play, while the Fords improve to 3-2-3 and 1-0-1 in conference.

The Bullets return to Clark Field on Wednesday October 2nd to wrap up their non-conference schedule against Susquehanna at 4 p.m.
