GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Misericordia University scored the game's lone goal in the 34th minute and the Cougars handed the Gettysburg College men's soccer team a 1-0 loss in the Bullets home opener Wednesday evening at Clark Field.
Parker McCardle scored the game-winner for for Misericordia (2-1), the defending Freedom Conference champion. Following a corner kick, the ball was cleared in the backfield to Colin Snyder, who crossed a pass to Kevin Matlon on the left wing. Matlon one-timed a high-arcing pass to McCardle at the top of the box, where he curled in a shot past a diving
Connor Darrell (Cream Ridge, N.J./Allentown) and just inside the left post.
The Cougars outshot the Bullets 7-3 in the opening period before the two sides each took four shots in the second half. Misericordia held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Darrell finished with three saves for Gettysburg (0-2) while Barry Fitzgerald also stopped three shots to register a shutout for the Cougars.
The Bullets return to play on Saturday, when they visit Neumann University at 3 p.m. in another non-conference match.
