Volleyball Wins Three at Juniata Invitational

Kuhn, Gorski tabbed to All-Tournament Team

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – All-Tournament selections Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) and Sarah Gorski (Darien, Conn./Darien) led the Gettysburg College volleyball team to a 3-1 record at the Juniata College ASICS Invitational on Sept. 6-7.
 
Gettysburg (5-3) posted a pair of wins on the tournament's opening day, beating Saint Vincent College 3-1 (25-21, 26-28, 25-17, 25-16) and Thiel College 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-22). The Bullets' only loss on the weekend came at the hands of the hosts as the 20th-ranked Eagles remained undefeated with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-15) victory to open play on Saturday. Gettysburg wrapped the weekend with a 3-1 (25-12, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22) win over Elizabethtown College.
 
Kuhn and Gorski were each tabbed to the ASICS All-Tournament Team. Kuhn averaged 9.14 assists per set to go with 12 kills, six aces, and 26 digs over the four matches. Gorski was the team's top attacker, averaging 2.7 kills during the weekend.
 
Gettysburg erased an early deficit to take its opening match of the weekend against Saint Vincent. After the Bearcats tallied the final two points to win the second set, the Bullets jumped out to early leads in the final two frames to close out the win.
 
Freshman Megan Heyer (Lakeway, Texas/Mills E. Godwin (Va.)) paced the attack with 15 kills and senior Courtney Cyr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) tallied 11 kills. Freshman Laura Bergin (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) posted nine kills and 21 digs, while senior Kelly Milione (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) led the defense with 24 digs. Kuhn dished out 44 assists.
 
The Bullets dispatched Thiel without too much trouble. Gorski led the attack with a dozen kills and Milione put up 13 digs. Bergin turned in another solid outing with seven kills and nine digs.
 
Juniata powered past Gettysburg Saturday afternoon. Gorski and sophomore Joosje Grevers (Westport, Conn./Staples) each tallied four kills, while Bergin put up 10 digs.
 
Gettysburg closed the weekend with a strong win over Elizabethtown. The Bullets turned in a season-best .295 attack percentage and posted eight total blocks. Kuhn dished out 42 assists and added five kills, three aces, eight digs, and four block assists. Grevers led the offense with 13 kills and Gorski posted 11 kills on just 16 attempts. Sophomore Hannah Bentz (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) led the defense with 11 digs.
 
Gettysburg faces York (Pa.) College in a non-conference affair inside Bream Gym on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m.
