Bullets See Five-Match Unbeaten Streak End

BALTIMORE – Playing without four starters, a shorthanded Gettysburg College men's soccer team lost by a 3-0 count at Johns Hopkins University in a Centennial Conference tilt and a match-up between two regionally-ranked teams Wednesday evening.
 
The Bullets (7-2-1, 1-1-1 CC) entered the match ranked fourth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III Mid-Atlantic Region poll while the Blue Jays (6-2-1, 2-1 CC) checked in at ninth.
 
Kenny DeStefano gave Hopkins a 2-0 lead after scoring in the 39th and the 49th minutes. Samy Ramadane set the final score with a goal in the 88th minute.
 
Freshman Max Karen (Huntington, N.Y./Elwood-John Glenn), making his first collegiate start, finished with three saves while facing 14 shots. Nick Cerrone collected four saves against the Bullets, who fired off eight shots.
 
Injuries or sickness claimed goalie Peter Como (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) along with midfielder Baki Bawa (Tamale, Ghana/Milbrook School), forward KJ Depontes (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel), and defender Mark Yearick (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia).
 
The Bullets return to action on Saturday, when they visit Haverford College at 3:30 p.m. in a Centennial Conference affair.
