Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Wyatt McCall scored in the 105th minute on a deflected shot to hand visiting Swarthmore College a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Gettysburg in a Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Clark Field.
The Bullets (7-4-1, 1-3-1 CC) were five minutes away from their fifth shutout of the season when the Garnet gained possession near midfield. Marc Geschwind brought the ball down the left side of the field before centering a pass to McCall at the top of the box. McCall fired a low shot that caromed off a Gettysburg defender and into the net as the Garnet (7-4-2, 1-4 CC) picked up its first Centennial Conference victory of the season.
Freshman goalie
Max Karen (Huntington, N.Y./Elwood-John Glenn) finished with four saves for Gettysburg, with three coming over an impressive stretch during the final five minutes of regulation. He made a diving stop in the 88th minute, then smothered a shot from close range following a corner kick in the 89th minute to help force overtime.
Swarthmore outshot the Bullets 15-9 for the day, though the Bullets owned a 7-2 advantage in corners. In a physical match, the two sides were whistled for a total of six yellow cards, with four being charged to Swarthmore.
Gettysburg resumes its four-match homestand on Tuesday, when it hosts Susquehanna University at 7 p.m. in its final non-conference match of the season.
