Georgia Ferguson (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) and
Molly Phillips (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) scored one goal apiece to lift the Gettysburg College women's soccer team to a 2-1 Centennial Conference (CC) victory at McDaniel College Wednesday afternoon.
The Bullets (10-3-1, 6-0-1 CC) captured their sixth-straight victory, matching their longest winning streak since late in the 2011 campaign. The Orange and Blue also moved one point ahead of Johns Hopkins (6-0 CC) for first place in the conference standings.
Gettysburg never trailed after scoring the first two goals. Ferguson put the Bullets up 1-0 in the 17th minute, taking a throw-in and working around a defender before going top shelf for her fourth goal of the season. Gettysburg carried their one-goal lead into halftime intermission.
Phillips provided what held up as the game-winning goal in 48th minute, when she headed home a corner kick off the foot of junior
Lauren Schapiro (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) for her fourth goal of the season. Ferguson and Phillips are now tied for the team lead in goals.
The Green Terror (8-4-3, 2-3-2 CC) pulled to within a goal in the 53rd minute when Julia Pope scored off an assist from Nicole Hill. It was the first goal scored against the Bullets in 540 minutes after Gettysburg had posted five consecutive shutouts.
The Bullets outshot McDaniel 10-7 while each side earned five corner kicks.
Junior
Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) earned the win in goal for the Bullets while Haley Jacobs stopped one shot for the Terror.
Gettysburg plays its regular-season home finale on Saturday, when it takes on Muhlenberg College on Senior at 1 p.m. in another Centennial Conference affair.
