Box Score BALTIMORE – Ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins University scored on each of its first three possessions and never looked back, handing visiting Gettysburg College a 37-14 setback in Centennial Conference football action under the lights at Homewood Field Friday night.
Gettysburg (3-4, 3-3 CC) turned the ball over on downs on its opening possession and Johns Hopkins (7-0, 6-0 CC) made the Bullets pay with a 35-yard pass from Braden Anderson to Stuart Walters for the opening score.
The Bullets punted the ball away on each of its next two drives and the Blue Jays would convert those ensuing possessions into scores. Anderson fired a 50-yard pass to Bradley Munday on the first play on the team's second possession, while Walters added a rushing touchdown to give the hosts a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Gettysburg punted the ball away on each of its final seven possessions of the opening half with only one drive reaching Blue Jay territory. Johns Hopkins added two more touchdowns in the second stanza to take a 34-0 lead into halftime.
After allowing 368 yards of total offense in the first half, Gettysburg's defense stepped up to hold the hosts to just 122 total yards in the final two quarters. The Blue Jays opened the half with a missed field goal before three consecutive punts.
Meanwhile, Gettysburg's offense reached the scoring column with a healthy contribution from the running game. The Bullets rushed the ball five times with a 27-yard run by junior
Kyle Wigley (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) capping the scoring drive to make it 34-7 with 6:24 left in the third period.
Senior
Zach Miller's (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) first pass of the fourth quarter was stolen away by Ryan Rice. Johns Hopkins would come back with the longest drive of the game, running off 12 plays and eating up more than six minutes. Jamie Sullivan would polish off the possession with a 33-yard field goal to lift Hopkins to a 37-7 lead.
Wigley performed the heavy lifting on Gettysburg's next drive, racking up 33 yards on his first three carries before busting out for a season-long 40-yard carry into the end zone to cut the deficit to 37-14 with 7:26 left in the final frame.
The Bullets had another score in mind in the game's final minutes, but after driving 73 yards on a dozen plays the visitors turned the ball over on downs.
Johns Hopkins out-gained Gettysburg 490-287 in total offense. The Blue Jays managed 329 yards passing and 161 yards rushing. Most of the Bullets' damage came in the running game with 210 yards.
Wigley logged his second 100-yard rushing outing of the season and the fifth of his career with 12 carries for 132 yards. Senior
Nick Ulassin (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) posted 117 all-purpose yards, including 72 yards on five kick returns. Ulassin also became just the sixth Bullet to reach 1,000 career yards on kick returns.

Dan Ciemniecki (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) recorded 11 tackles and sophomore
Joseph Vegso (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple-Newtown) posted 10 stops. Junior
Brian Calatozzo (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) and sophomore
Chris Miller (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) each posted three tackles for a loss.
Anderson finished 21-of-26 for 306 yards and four touchdowns for Johns Hopkins. Munday reeled in six passes for 124 yards, while Walters gained 72 yards on 11 carries. Walters finished with a team-high 129 all-purpose yards.
Gettysburg will host Moravian College on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m.
