Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College scored twice over a six-and-a-half minute stretch late in the match and the host Fords defeated the Gettysburg College men's soccer team by a final of 2-0 in a Centennial Conference (CC) match-up Saturday afternoon.
Making just his second collegiate start, freshman
Max Karen (Huntington, N.Y./Elwood-John Glenn) finished with five saves for the Bullets (7-3-1, 1-2-1 CC), who played without three starters due to injuries.
Sam Miller played all but the final minute between the pipes for Haverford (6-3, 3-1 CC), which did not allow a shot on goal.
It was a scoreless match for over 73 minutes, though the Bullets had a golden opportunity in the 62nd minute. Sophomore
Henry Smith (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) broke free for a one-on-one with Miller, who came out to deflect away a shot from the right side of the box.
The Fords finally broke through in the 74th minute, when Ben Field took a long pass from Brady Seitz at midfield and slipped in a shot in front of the net. Then in the 81st minute, Seitz took dribbled in from the midfield before connecting from the top of the box to set the final score.
Haverford outshot Gettysburg just 4-3 in the first half, when Karen made a save in the 26th minute. The Fords turned up the pressure in the second half, when it held a 10-2 shot advantage. However, Karen kept the Bullets in it by turning aside the first two shots he saw before Haverford's late goals.
Gettysburg returns to action next Saturday, when it hosts Swarthmore College at 4 p.m. in another Centennial Conference tilt.
