MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.  – The Gettysburg College softball team dominated on the mound and at the plate on Monday, totaling 17 runs and allowing just one in victories over Blackburn College and Pitt-Greensburg.

Gettysburg (3-0) took down Blackburn (1-4) 9-1 in the first game of the day. Sophomore Michelle Fox (Great Meadows, N.J./Blair Academy) followed up a strong season debut with another dominant performance in the circle. She allowed just one run on three hits, while striking out four to improve to 2-0 this spring.

Offensively, the Bullets took advantage of six walks and one hit-by-pitch to score nine runs on just eight hits. After scoring a run on a single by senior Maggie Maguire (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) in the first inning, Gettysburg added three more in the second without the benefit of a hit.

Three more runs came across in the fourth frame, including two on a towering homer to right by Maguire, pushing her program record for career home runs to 15. A two-run double by freshman Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) in the fifth capped the scoring.

Abell, Maguire, and sophomore Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) combined to go 6-for-9 with eight RBI and four runs scored. Abell added a walk and a stolen base as well.

In the day's second outing, the Bullets posted an 8-0 victory over Pitt-Greensburg. Junior Lindsey Treanor (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) earned the win on the mound and Abell clubbed her first collegiate home run in the contest.

Gettysburg continues its spring trip with a contest against Ursuline College on Tuesday, March 11, at 11:30 a.m.
