Box Score
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore
Michelle Fox (Newton, N.J./Blair Academy) allowed just one hit over five innings and classmate
Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) drove in five runs as the Gettysburg College softball team posted a 13-5 win over SUNY Canton in its season debut.
Gettysburg (1-0) scored a run in all six innings against Canton (0-2). Sophomore
Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) jump-started the offense with a two-run double in the first inning. The Bullets would jump ahead 10-0 thanks to Hisgen, who tallied a pair of two-out, two-run singles in both the second and third innings.
After the Kangaroos closed the gap with five runs in the fifth frame, Hisgen plated one of the two Gettysburg runs in the bottom of the frame with a double. The Bullets would put the game to bed with a run in the bottom of the sixth as Zengel came around to score off an infield hit by senior
Maggie Maguire (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and subsequent throwing error by the third baseman.
Hisgen finished with a career-high three hits to go with her personal best RBI total. Zengel and freshman
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) each recorded a pair of hits and scored three runs, while sophomore
Melissa Tighe (Little Falls, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy) reached base four times with a hit and three walks and scored three runs.
Fox pitched the first four innings before reentering in the top of the sixth. She struck out five and did not allow a walk.
