Box Score 2 CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College shut out Gettysburg College 7-0 in game two to complete the sweep in a Centennial Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
Washington (22-8, 9-3 CC) took the opener 8-6. Trailing 2-0 after one frame, Gettysburg (14-11, 3-7 CC) brought in four runs in the top of the second, including two on a home run by junior
Emily Hall (Reston, Va./Flint Hill School). Freshman
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) drove in the final two with a single to left-center.
The lead was short-lived as the Shorewomen tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The hosts took a 6-4 lead in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Lauren Dockrill and Suzanne Patinella.
Gettysburg closed the gap with a run in the top of the fifth, but Washington turned in two more runs in the bottom of the inning to jump in front 8-5. The Bullets managed to get one run back on a lead-off triple by junior
Melissa Tighe (Little Falls, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic) and a sacrifice fly by Abell in the sixth, but that would be the end of the scoring for the visitors.
Sophomore
Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Tighe added two hits, two runs, and a stolen base.
Gettysburg was held to five hits by Christine Anderson in game two. Only two runners managed to make it to second base as Anderson finished with six strikeouts and just one walk.
Washington put up all the runs it would need in the opening frame, sending nine batters to the dish and bringing across three runs. Patinella would provide some fireworks later in the game with a pair of home runs in the fourth and sixth innings for the Shorewomen.
Abell went 2-for-3 and senior
Abby Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) reached base twice via a hit and a walk for Gettysburg.
