Parker Delmolino (Monroe, Conn./Fairfield Prep) picked an opportune time to score his first goal of the season, striking from long range in the 66th minute to lift the Gettysburg College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Eastern Mennonite University in a non-conference outing Wednesday evening.
One day after earning their first regional ranking in three years, the Bullets (5-1) continued their best start since 2006. Gettysburg outshot the Royals 22-4.
Sophomore
Peter Como (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) made three saves to register his third shutout in four matches for Gettysburg. Two goalies split the time in goal and made four saves apiece for EMU (2-3-2), with Andrew Yoder playing the opening half and Matthew Overacker coming on for the second period.
The Bullets held a 12-2 shot advantage in the first half before finally breaking through on their 17th shot of the night, when Delmolino connected from 35 yards. Gettysburg outshot the Royals 5-1 the rest of the way, but could not pad its lead, as Overacker made all four of his saves during the stretch.
Como nailed down the shutout in the 87th minute when he snuffed out a header for his final save.
Gettysburg picks up its schedule on Saturday, when it visits Ursinus College in its Centennial Conference opener beginning at noon.
