Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Junior
Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) made six saves – including a stop in the final minute – and the Gettysburg College women's soccer opened its Centennial Conference schedule with a 0-0 tie at Ursinus College on Saturday.
The Bullets (3-2-1, 0-0-1 CC) were edged 12-10 in shots but held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Courtney Sullivan made five saves for Ursinus (1-4-1, 0-0-1 CC).
Gettysburg outshot the Bears 5-3 in the first half, but Sullivan made two saves on shots by seniors
Mary Kamovitch (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) in the fifth minute and
Brigid Behan (Newport, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) in the 16th minute. Gray kept Ursinus at bay with stops in the 14th and 19th minutes.
The Bears outshot the Bullets 7-4 in the second half, when the goalies made two saves apiece. A key moment came in the 68th minute, when Sullivan turned aside shots by sophomores
Julia Ramsey (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) and
Hannah Theurer (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) 25 seconds apart. Gray registered stops in the 52nd and 82nd minutes.
Just over three minutes into the first overtime period the Bullets put a shot on goal, but freshman
Krissy Bradley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) had her attempt saved by Sullivan, and it would turn out to be the only shot of the stanza for either side.
Gray stood tall in the second OT session, posting a save less than a minute into the period and another one with just 30 seconds left. They were the only two shots of the period.
It was the third shutout of the season for Gray and her second clean sheet in as many matches. The Bullets also worked overtime to register a shutout in their last time out – a 1-0 victory over York (Pa.) College this past Wednesday.
Gettysburg returns to action next Saturday, when it hosts Washington College at 7 p.m. in another Centennial Conference match.
