Women’s Soccer Rolls Past Washington

Four Bullets Find Back of the Net

Shannon Brady finished with a goal and an assist versus Washington.
Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team scored three of its four goals in the second half and the Bullets did not allow a shot en route to a 4-0 Centennial Conference victory over Washington College Saturday night at Clark Field.

Four different Bullets found the back of the net while the defense posted its fifth shutout of the season and its third consecutive clean sheet.

Gettysburg improved to 4-2-1 and 1-0-1 in the Centennial Conference while the Shorewomen dropped to 2-5-1 and 0-3 in conference play.

Despite outshooting Washington 16-0 in the first half, the Bullets were unable to dent goalie Melissa Barry until the 41st minute, when freshman Shannon Brady (Glen Head, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) scored her first collegiate goal. It was set up by senior Meg Castranova (Pennington, N.J./Pennington School), who had her cross deflect off a defender and right to Brady, who drilled in a shot from the top of the box.

The Orange and Blue netted their final three goals over a 15-minute span midway through the second half. Senior Georgia Ferguson (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) scored off a feed from junior Melissa Seidner (Hamilton, N.J./Peddie School) in the 57th minute before classmate Molly Phillips (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) headed in a corner kick from junior Lauren Schapiro (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) five minutes later. Freshman Maddie Heaney (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) capped the scoring when she converted a dish from Brady in the 71st minute.

Junior Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) played the opening 71 minutes to pick up the win in goal before seniors Paige Della Badia (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and Morgan Patullo (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) played the 12 and seven minutes, respectively.

Barry finished with 11 saves for Washington.

Gettysburg picks up its schedule on Monday, when it visits ninth-ranked Misericordia University at 7 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
