Box Score

YORK, Pa.  – York (Pa.) College scored the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute and then held visiting Gettysburg College without a shot over the remaining time to secure a 3-2 non-conference decision Wednesday evening.

A pair of freshmen scored their first collegiate goals for Gettysburg (1-1) in Casey Eck (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and Lindsay Kraus (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School). Sophomore Hannah Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) assisted on both goals. Freshman goalie Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) logged a game-high 10 saves.

Both sides tested the goals early with Gettysburg tossing three shots on goal in succession just after the five-minute mark of the opening period. All three attempts were turned away by York goalie Jessica Everett.

Mowery came through on the defensive end for the Bullets by knocking away a pair of shot attempts a few minutes later. The Spartans continued to attack with Beth Patrick netting the opening goal at 15:48.

The goalies held off the opposing attacks until right before the end of the first stanza when Fitzgerald crossed a pass to the back post for the finish by Eck with one second remaining before the halftime horn.

The visitors were on the defensive to start the final stanza with Mowery turning away four shots and junior Emily Van Horn (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) picking up a defensive save. The Spartans took advantage of Mowery's final save as Ali Posey knocked the rebound into the goal at 46:30.

Gettysburg answered in short order as a shot attempt by Fitzgerald was tipped in by Kraus less than a minute later to tie the game 2-2.

After combining for 21 shots on goal in the first 47 minutes, the two squads managed only one more shot on goal in the remaining 23 minutes. York cashed in on the only attempt on goal as Sydney LaMarsh smacked in the game-winner at 59:17.

York finished with a 20-11 advantage in shots, while Gettysburg led in penalty corners 6-4.

Gettysburg makes its home debut against Cabrini College this Saturday, Sept. 6, at 4:30 p.m.
