Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore
Patrick Santini (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season, but the Gettysburg College men's soccer team came up on the short end of a 2-1 decision at Swarthmore College in a Centennial Conference (CC) match Saturday afternoon.
It was the third-consecutive one-goal loss for the Bullets (7-3-1, 2-3 CC), who received four saves from junior goalie
Peter Como (Wilton, Conn./Wilton).
The Garnet (5-7-1, 2-2-1 CC) never trailed after Omri Gal scored in the 11th minute. Billy Evers set up the goal with a shot that was deflected by Como before Gal kicked in the loose ball.
Como turned aside another shot in the 41st minute and it remained a 1-0 contest heading into the intermission. Swarthmore outshot the Bullets 6-3 in the opening half.
Gettysburg pulled even in the 54th minute, when Santini struck from eight yards out off a feed from junior
KJ DePontes (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel).
Swarthmore keeper Tyler Zon kept it a 1-1 game with a pair of saves over the middle of the half, stopping a Santini shot in the 62nd minute and a DePontes header in the 73rd minute. The Garnet then took the lead when Ryan Meuth scored what held up as the game-winning goal on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 75th minute.
Como stopped a header in the 76th minute, but each of Gettysburg's final two shot attempts were blocked.
Swarthmore finished with advantages in shots (12-10) and corner kicks (9-3). Zon also made four saves for the Garnet.
The Bullets pick up their schedule on Tuesday, when they visit Susquehanna University in a non-conference tilt beginning at 7 p.m.
