Emily Van Horn (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) set the single-season defensive saves record and Gettysburg rolled to its third-straight win with a 2-0 decision at McDaniel College in Centennial Conference field hockey action Tuesday evening.
Gettysburg (6-7, 2-4 CC) jumped on the board in the 19th minute as junior
Samantha Wright (Darien, Conn./Darien) tallied her team-leading eighth goal. Sophomore
Casey Eck (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) picked up the assist after dishing to Wright from the top of the arc.
The Bullets were denied additional scores as McDaniel (7-7, 2-5 CC) goalie Christina Gooding logged four saves in the opening half, including stopping a penalty stroke by sophomore
Lindsay Kraus (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) at 28:11. Sophomore
Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) kept McDaniel off the board with a trio of stops, including two in the final four minutes of the period.
Van Horn preserved the lead with her Centennial-leading eighth defensive save on a shot by Gabrielle Yore seven minutes into the second half. Van Horn passed the previous program record for defensive saves in a season shared by
Lexie Mowery '15 and
Megan Bernstein '12.
The hosts managed just three shots in the final period with Mowery picking up her fourth save on an attempt by Melissa Cohen in the 58th minute. Gettysburg added an insurance goal on a penalty corner with no time left on the clock. Sophomore
Lily Neibart (Morristown, N.J./PIngry) provided the pass to the left and classmate
Philippa Lumsden (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) smashed home her third goal in the last four games.
Gettysburg finished with a 16-9 lead in shots and a 13-4 edge in penalty corners.
Gettysburg hosts Muhlenberg College this Friday at 3:30 p.m.
