Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Senior goalie
Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) broke or tied three records as the Gettysburg College women's soccer team earned a 2-0 Centennial Conference (CC) victory at Muhlenberg College Saturday afternoon.
Â
Gray finished with one save and broke the Centennial Conference record for career shutouts with her 36th clean sheet, surpassing the former mark set by Robin Chernow of Haverford College from 2011-14. She also eclipsed the school record for career goalie wins with her 45th victory, moving past recent Gettysburg Hall of Athletic Honor inductee Kathy Kroupa '95. In addition, she tied the school record for single-season shutouts (10) for the second year in a row.
Â
Senior
Lauren Schapiro (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) continued her clutch scoring, striking in the seventh minute to provide the Bullets (8-2-5, 5-2-1 CC) with all of the offense they would need. She has now scored the game-winning goal in Gettysburg's last three victories and in five games for the year.
Â
The Bullets, who continue to hold the fifth and final playoff spot in the Centennial Conference standings, outshot Muhlenberg 12-8, but Jen Mermelstein finished with five saves for the Mules (4-11-1, 3-6 CC).
Â
Schapiro created her own offense, blocking a clearing pass before sending a shot into the far post for her team-leading sixth goal of the season, which also marks her career-high. The two sides each took five shots in the opening half, with Gray collecting her lone stop of the day in the 28th minute on a header.
Â
Junior
Hannah Theurer (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) provided an insurance tally in the 53rd minute, taking a cross from the left and finishing to the bottom-left of the net. Schapiro and sophomore
Shannon Brady (Glen Head, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) provided assists on the goal.
Â
The Mules nearly cut the lead in half when Carly DeNigris hit the crossbar in the 56th minute. But they would manage just one shot over the remainder of the half, when the Bullets outshot the Mules 7-3.
Â
Gettysburg has now shut out its last four opponents and has blanked 11 of its 15 foes on the season.
Â
The Bullets conclude their regular season with a pair of home matches, starting with a Centennial Conference clash with Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
