Three Bullets Score a Goal

Jessica Cuttone (in headband) is congratulated after scoring what held up as the game-winning goal.
Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg received goals from three different players while the defense held Franklin & Marshall College without a shot in a 3-0 Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer victory Tuesday evening at Clark Field.

Sophomore Jessica Cuttone (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah), junior Hannah Theurer (Darnestown, Md./Northwest), and senior Melissa Seidner (Hamilton, N.J./Peddie School) all found the back of the net for Gettysburg (9-2-5, 6-2-1 CC), which finds itself in fourth place in the conference standings heading into its regular-season finale on Saturday.

Senior Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) did not have to make a save to break the single-season school record for shutouts that she had shared. It was the 11th clean sheet of the year for Gray.

It was the fifth-straight shutout for the Bullets, who are 4-0-1 over the stretch.

Gettysburg outshot F&M 24-0 and 15-0 in the first half. However, Diplomat goalie Shannon Johnson-Finn finished with eight saves and posted five stops before the Bullets broke through in the 34th minute. Freshman Alexa Bushey (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) was awarded a direct kick just outside the box, and Johnson-Finn was unable to handle the shot cleanly. Cuttone raced and headed the loose ball out of the air and into the net for her second goal of the season.

Johnson-Finn would turn aside two more shots over the remainder of the half and the Orange and Blue carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Theurer made it a 2-0 game when she drilled in a penalty-kick goal in the 56th minute, when she was tackled inside the box. It was her second PK in the last four matches.

Seidner set the final score in the 70th minute, taking a cross from Bushey and blasting a shot into the left side of the net for her first tally of the season.

The Bullets were able to go deep into their bench, with 25 different players entering the game.

Gettysburg concludes its regular season on Saturday, when it hosts Johns Hopkins University at 7 p.m. on Senior Night.
