Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg College field hockey team struck first against No. 4 Franklin & Marshall College, but the host Diplomats countered with the final five tallies in a 5-1 victory on Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (7-9, 3-6 CC) went on the offensive early against Franklin & Marshall (14-2, 9-0 CC). The Bullets turned in the game's first four shots with junior
Tori Sankey (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) connecting for her seventh goal of the season in the seventh minute. Junior
Hannah Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) picked up her team-best seventh assist on the play.
The Diplomats tied the game five minutes later on a penalty stroke by Anne Horsley. Sophomore
Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) stopped the potential go-ahead goal in the 12th minute, but the hosts eventually jumped ahead with a goal by Lauren Eastman at 20:03.
After being held to seven shots and four penalty corners in the opening period, Franklin & Marshall dialed up the attack in the second half. The Diplomats posted 25 shots and 14 corners in the final half of play with three goals going up on the board.
Mowery posted 13 of her 15 saves in the second half. The Bullets also picked up four defensive saves in the final stanza, including senior
Emily Van Horn's (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) league-leading 10th of the year.
Gettysburg closes out the season at Johns Hopkins University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
