Bullets Fall to No. 3 Diplomats

Yearick Scores for Gettysburg

Mark Yearick scored his third goal of the season.
Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Five different players scored a goal for Franklin & Marshall College and the third-ranked Diplomats defeated Gettysburg 6-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action at a rain-soaked Clark Field Wednesday evening.

With just one regular-season match left, the Bullets (9-5-1, 3-5 CC) find themselves tied for sixth place in the Centennial Conference standings, trailing Johns Hopkins University by two points for the fifth and final playoff spot. The Blue Jays still have two conference games remaining; their match versus McDaniel College on Wednesday was postponed due to inclement weather.

The start of the match was delayed 45 minutes due to lightning. Much of the game was played through heavy rain.

Franklin & Marshall (15-1, 7-1 CC), which spent three weeks ranked No. 1 in Division III earlier this month, scored three goals in each half. Conor Pellas led the way with one goal and one assist.

Gettysburg held the Diplomats to five first-half shots, but the visitors scored in the 17th, 24th, and 37th minutes to assume a 3-0 halftime advantage.

F&M extended its lead on an own goal in the 55th minute before the Bullets broke up the shutout in the 73rd minute. Following a restart, senior Ryan Kennedy (Frederick, Md./McDonogh School) found a charging Mark Yearick (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) on the left side of the box. Yearick drilled in his third goal of the season to make it 4-1.

The Diplomats set the final score with goals in the 77th and 81st minutes.

Trevor Britton made two saves while playing the opening 63 minutes in goal for F&M. Junior Peter Como (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) also stopped two shots for Gettysburg.

The Bullets close out the regular season on Saturday, when they host McDaniel at 4 p.m. on Senior Day.
