Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman
Alexa Bushey (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) headed home the game-winning goal in the 80th minute and the Gettysburg College women's soccer team earned a big 1-0 Centennial Conference (CC) victory over 22nd-ranked and previously-undefeated Haverford College Saturday afternoon at a rainy and cold Clark Field.
The Bullets (5-1-3, 2-1 CC) held Haverford (7-1-1, 0-1-1 CC) without a shot on goal and just four shots overall en route to their seventh shutout of the season.
Sophomore
Aoife Schanche (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) started the play with a corner kick from the right. A header from junior
Julia Ramsey (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) was deflected by a defender, but Bushey was there on the left side of the box to send home the game-winner, which was also her first collegiate goal.
The two sides combined for just 11 shots, with the Bullets holding a 7-4 edge.
Gettysburg outshot the Fords 3-2 in the first half, but Haverfords's Kathy Prescott saved the lone shot on goal, which came off the foot of freshman
Lauren Miesemer (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) in the seventh minute.
The Bullets put up a 4-2 shot advantage in the second half.
Senior
Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) did not have to make a save to earn her 32nd career shutout. She also picked up her 42nd career goalie win, which places her in a tie for third in Centennial Conference history.
The Orange and Blue return to action on Wednesday, when they host 13th-ranked Misericordia University at 5 p.m. in a non-conference affair.
