Tori Sankey (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) and sophomore
Philippa Lumsden (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) each tallied goals for the Gettysburg College field hockey team in a 6-2 non-conference loss at No. 17 Messiah College on Wednesday night.
Messiah (7-4) struck for a pair of goals in the opening 20 minutes before Sankey slapped in a rebound at the start of the 32nd minute for her third goal of the campaign. The Falcons scored just 22 seconds before halftime to take a 3-1 lead.
Sophomore
Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) logged seven of her game-high 13 saves in the first nine minutes of the second half. Messiah eventually found a way past the Gettysburg goalie as Moriah Pfautz completed a hat trick in the 47th minute. The Falcons tacked on two more goals in the 55th and 60th minutes to cap their scoring.
Lumsden turned in her first collegiate tally by striking a pass from junior
Samantha Wright (Darien, Conn./Darien) off a penalty corner with 3:10 to go.
Gettysburg hosts Swarthmore College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
