Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – After a stretch of high-powered offensive showings, the Gettysburg College pitching staff recorded a pair of dominant outings to help the Bullets extend their winning streak to seven games at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic.
Gettysburg (7-1) opened with a 7-1 win over Meredith College (9-3). Freshman
Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) struck out a season high eight and allowed only one run on four hits. She allowed only two runners to reach second base through the first six innings and she retired the side in the second, third, and fifth frames. After surrendering her first run of the game in the seventh, she fanned the final batter she faced to close out her third victory of the campaign.
Sophomore
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) kicked off a busy day at the dish by walking and coming around to score on a double by junior
Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./Hunterdon Central) in the first inning. Zengel would score later in the frame to make it 2-0.
The Bullets tacked on five runs in the final two frames. Abell accounted for the game's third run after leading off the fifth with a single and coming around to score on a groundout. She also capped the scoring with a two-run triple to left in the seventh.
Abell finished 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Zengel, senior
Melissa Tighe (Little Falls, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy), and junior
Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) each went 2-for-4.
Senior
Lindsey Treanor (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) allowed just two hits and struck out six in posting her second shutout of the season in a 4-0 win over Albertus Magnus College (2-4). Treanor retired 12 consecutive batters before allowing the Falcons' first hit with one out in the fifth inning. She improved to 2-1 with the win.
Gettysburg struck first with a run in the opening inning. After reaching on a fielder's choice, Zengel scored on a single by Hisgen to center field.
Abell tallied the second of her three hits in the game with one out in the fifth and came around to score on a single by senior
Emily Hall (Reston, Va./Flint Hill School). After another run scored on an error in the sixth, the Bullets closed the scoring with Tighe posting an RBI single later in the inning.
Abell finished 3-for-4 with a run and Tighe, Hall, and Hisgen all added two base knocks.
Gettysburg closes its spring trip with a pair of games against Medaille College at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12.
