GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Cortland didn't enjoy its last trip to Clark Field, but the third-ranked Red Dragons made the most of their return by taking down No. 1 Gettysburg 14-10 in women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Cortland (2-0) saw its perfect season and an opportunity for a national title dashed with an 8-7 loss to Trinity (Conn.) College in the national semifinals at Clark Field last May. Gettysburg (4-1) quickly welcomed the Dragons back to its home turf with a four-goal run to start the game. Senior Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) turned in two of those tallies, the last coming off an assist from classmate Mandy Buell (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) with 13:46 left in the half.

Cortland stormed back with a four-goal run of its own over the next three minutes. A quartet of Dragons found the back of the net, capped by a free-position goal by Elise Bennett which knotted the game at 10:22.

After exchanging goals, the Bullets grabbed a 6-5 lead on a goal by Buell with 3:46 to go before the break. Buell had another shot at extending the advantage heading into halftime, but goalie Liz Ingalls scooped up the senior's free-position attempt with 13 seconds on the clock.

Cortland won 9-of-12 draw controls in the opening period, but Gettysburg came out with the first win out of the circle in the final stanza. The Bullets eventually scored the first goal of the half with freshman Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) finding Kenny to make it 7-5 at 25:04.

The Red Dragons seized control of the draw, winning each of the next five draw controls and surging into the lead for the first time in the game. After a 3-0 run by Cortland, junior Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) stemmed the tide temporarily with a goal at 19:10. But Tara Monaghan answered just a minute later to lift the visitors back in front by a goal.

Junior Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) converted a free-position attempt to tie the score for the fifth time in the game at 15:33. Two more draw controls translated into two more quick goals for Bennett to put the Red Dragons back in front to stay 11-9 with 13:42 on the clock.

Cortland controlled possession for the majority of the remaining time and added two more goals before Kenny's fifth tally at 2:52. An open-net goal by Emma Hayes-Hurley set the final score with 1:58 to play.

Cortland finished with a 17-9 edge in draw controls, while also leading in shots 24-22. Ground balls were even at 13.

Kenny finished with five goals and three draw controls for the Bullets. Landry dished out five assists, while Buell scored two goals and one assist. Senior Kate Higgins (Oreland, Pa./William Penn Charter School) tallied two caused turnovers and a ground ball.

Ashely Gentile scored four goals and dished out an assist to pace Cortland. Monaghan, Hayes-Hurley, and Bennett all recorded three goals and one assist with Hayes-Hurley also corralling a game-high eight draw controls. Monaghan finished with four draw controls and five ground balls.
