Mandy Buell (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) scored a career-high seven goals and eighth-ranked Gettysburg rebounded from a loss with a 15-9 victory at York College in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest on Tuesday.
Buell scored seven goals on nine shots for Gettysburg (6-2). She topped her previous personal best by two goals and she was a perfect 3-for-3 on free-position shots. Senior
Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) turned in three goals and grabbed four draw controls, while junior
Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) tallied two goals, one assist, and three draw controls.
Brittany Noell scored three goals and Jayme Verman turned in two goals and three assists for York (6-3).
The offense was rolling early with seven total goals in the first 8:10. York jumped out to a 2-1 lead, but Gettysburg came right back with a 6-0 run to grab the upper-hand. Buell contributed two goals during the run with the last coming off a feed by
junior Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) making it 7-2 with 15:26 left in the first half.
After the Spartans scored to make it 9-4 with 2:53 remaining in the first stanza, Kenny and Buell combined for the next four goals to give the Bullets a decisive 13-4 lead with just over 17 minutes to go in the game. Two goals by York cut the run, but the visitors answered right back with two quick scores, the last by Buell making it 15-6 at 9:10.
Gettysburg out-shot York 25-22 and held a 17-9 advantage in draw controls. York secured more ground balls (14-12) and came up with one less turnover (13-12).
