Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College held Muhlenberg College to its lowest goal total in 23 years with a 14-1 decision in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action at Clark Field on Saturday.

Gettysburg (7-2, 1-1 CC) was led by senior Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) and junior Maggie Connolly (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) with three goals apiece. The Bullets' defense was outstanding, holding Muhlenberg (4-4, 0-2 CC) without a goal in the second half and to just 13 shots in the game.

Despite the frigid weather, it didn't take long for the hosts to warm up as Connolly scooped the opening draw and raced to the cage for the first goal 11 seconds into the contest. Freshman Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) scored on Gettysburg's next possession to make it 2-0.

Muhlenberg's only goal of the game came on a shot by Casey Armstrong at 25:30. The Mules found no give to the host's defensive pressure for the remainder of the game, turning the ball over nine times on clear attempts while managing just three more shots on goal. Sophomore goalie Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) stopped all three of those potential goals, including a free-position attempt by Stephanie Umbach at 11:54 of the first period.

The Bullets continued to roll on offense with Kenny scoring all of her goals in the first half. Her free-position goal at 5:16 gave Gettysburg a 7-1 lead at the break.

Connolly kicked off another dominant half with a goal 54 seconds into the final frame. Landry and junior Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) followed up with goals just 15 seconds apart to make it 10-1 with 18:38 remaining.

Freshman Katie Willis (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) capped the game with her first collegiate tally off a feed by fellow first-year Maggie Welsh (Rye, N.Y./Holy Child).

Gettysburg finished with advantages in shots (29-13), ground balls (21-14), and draw controls (12-5). Muhlenberg's goal total was its lowest since a 14-1 loss to Ursinus College in 1992.

Landry, senior Mandy Buell (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), and junior Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) each tallied two goals for the Bullets. Kenny added an assist and now needs just five points to reach 200 for her career, while Connolly is just three points shy of 100 for her career. Kenny also grabbed four draw controls and Connolly corralled three draws.

Keeler finished with three saves, two ground balls, and one caused turnover. Seniors Kate Higgins (Oreland, Pa./William Penn Charter) and Allie Clark (Wynnewood, Pa./Episcopal Academy) each scooped four ground balls, the former also picking up a caused turnover. Sophomores Caroline Jaeger (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Katelyn Neillands (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) each produced two caused turnovers.

Umbach, the conference's leading scorer coming into the game, was held without a goal for the first time in 41 games thanks in large part to the defensive effort of junior Emily Tropsa (Darien, Conn./Darien).

Next up for the Bullets is a road trip to No. 19 Dickinson College (4-3, 1-1 CC) on Wednesday, April 1, at 4 p.m.
