Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Senior
Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) set the program's career record for draw controls and 14 players reached the scoring column as sixth-ranked Gettysburg College wrapped up the top seed in the Centennial Conference with a 21-2 win at Bryn Mawr College on Saturday.
With the victory, Gettysburg (14-2, 8-1 CC) finished the regular season tied with No. 2 Franklin & Marshall College (15-2, 8-1 CC) for the top spot in the standings. The Bullets hold the tiebreaker by virtue of a 14-11 win over the Diplomats earlier this week. Gettysburg will host the Centennial Conference Championship for the fourth consecutive season on May 2-3.
Kenny tied a season high with eight draw controls and reached 273 for her career, pushing her one draw control ahead of the previous program record held by
Megan Murphy '03. Senior
Mandy Buell (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) led the offensive barrage with a team-high six goals and one assist in the opening half of play. Freshman
Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) added two goals and two assists.
The visitors put its quick-strike attack on full display on Saturday, with a dozen goals in the opening 12 minutes of play. Buell started the game by scoring in just 15 seconds off the opening draw.
Bryn Mawr (4-13, 0-9 CC) tallied the next goal as Fione Steel scored at 27:27. Buell tossed in another score 29 seconds later, beginning a run of 11 consecutive goals scored in 60 seconds or less. Landry accounted for the quickest tally, scoring on a feed from junior
Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) at 23:58 before adding another goal 13 seconds later courtesy of Buell.
After Steele posted the Owl's second goal at 14:41, senior
Chelsea Reed (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) picked up her first collegiate goal at 12:03. The Bullets scored the final five goals of the period to take an 18-2 lead at halftime.
Freshmen
Rachel Boghosian (Hanover, N.H./Hanover),
Jessie Boyle (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), and
Cassie Smith (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) each netted their first collegiate tallies to account for all of the scoring in the second half.
Gettysburg put up 35 shots while holding Bryn Mawr to just two. The Bullets tied a season-high 20 draw controls in the victory.
Sophomore
Emma Christie (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) turned in two goals, while senior
Liz Cocchiola (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) and freshman
Maggie Welsh (Rye, N.H./Holy Child) each posted one goal and three assists. All three Gettysburg goalies saw time in the cage with sophomore
Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) earning the victory.
Gettysburg will host the conference semifinals next Saturday followed by the championship game on Sunday at Clark Field. The Bullets will face the winner of Wednesday's first-round contest featuring Haverford College (10-7, 5-4 CC) at Muhlenberg College (9-6, 5-4 CC) in the semis. Franklin & Marshall will play Washington College (11-4, 7-2CC) in the other semifinal. Official game times for all playoff games will be released on Monday.
