Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) got her 200th career point out of the way early and Gettysburg College poured in the first dozen goals in a dominating 18-3 decision over Swarthmore College in a Centennial Conference women's lacrosse game at Clark Field on Saturday.
Gettysburg (9-2, 3-1 CC) tied its season high for goals with its starters standing on the sideline for the majority of the final period. Kenny had a hand in each of her team's first three goals to become the 12th Bullet with 200 career points. She finished with four goals and two assists and raised her career point total to 203.
Junior
Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) tallied a hat trick, while sophomore
Emma Christie (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) and freshmen
Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and
Katie Willis (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) each turned in two goals.
Swarthmore (6-4, 2-2 CC) had no answer for Gettysburg's offensive onslaught as six different Bullets lit the lamp in the first half. Landry and Kenny hooked up for the first three goals, the former scoring twice, while Borucki dashed in for a pair of goals 28 seconds apart to make it 5-0 just over eight minutes into the game.
Gettysburg's defense set an early tone by forcing the Garnet into four failed clears and 14 total turnovers in the first half. The only two shots Swarthmore put on goal were swiped away by sophomore goalie
Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), including a free-position attempt by Elizabeth Upton at 18:13.
After Kenny tossed in her fourth goal of the half to make it 10-0, the Bullets used up only 10 seconds after winning the draw control as junior
Samantha Aiello (Sparks, Md./Maryvale Prep) scored off a feed from freshman
Maggie Welsh (Rye, N.Y./Holy Child). Borucki completed her first-half hat trick on a free-position goal to make it 12-0 heading into the break.
Gettysburg won 12 consecutive draw controls at one point in the game, leading to a decisive 18-5 advantage in the circle overall. All but one of the Bullets' second-half scores came following possession of the draw control, including freshman
Emily Wilcox's (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) first collegiate goal at 26:18. Christie closed the scoring with a nice one-timer from a feed by senior
Liz Cocchiola (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) with six minutes remaining.
Gettysburg finished with the advantage in shots (32-9) and ground balls (13-8). The Bullets connected on 5-of-7 free-position shots and were a perfect 12-for-12 on clear attempts. The team also tied a season low with only nine turnovers.
