Box Score

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Junior Peter Como (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) made three of his four saves in the two overtime periods and the Gettysburg College men's soccer team battled 11th-ranked Messiah College to a 0-0 tie in a non-conference tilt on the road Wednesday evening.

Gettysburg (4-0-1) has now equaled the program's best start through five matches since the 2002 squad also opened 4-0-1.

The Bullets earned a tie versus a nationally-ranked opponent for the third year in a row and snapped a six-match losing streak to Messiah dating back to Gettysburg's 1-1 tie versus the Falcons in 2008.

Messiah (3-1-1) outshot the Bullets 18-4, including 11-3 in regulation and 7-0 in the second half. However, Gettysburg's back line allowed just one shot on goal during the stretch, with Como making a save on a header in the 73rd minute.

The Falcons continued to apply pressure in the two overtime periods, when they outshot the Bullets 7-1. But that's when Como came up big, snuffing out one shot in the first OT and two more in the second extra session. He secured his third clean sheet of the season when he deflected a shot to the near post as time expired.

Jonathan Weaver earned a shutout for Messiah without making a save.

Gettysburg plays its Centennial Conference opener on Saturday, when it hosts Ursinus College at 4 p.m.
