Will Gately (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and junior
KJ DePontes (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) scored one goal apiece, lifting the Gettysburg College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory at Muhlenberg College in Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday evening.
Gettysburg (7-0-1, 2-0 CC), which continued its best start since 1993, received four saves from junior
Peter Como (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) who registered his fourth shutout of the season.
Jordan Schreer made three saves in net for Muhlenberg (3-4-1, 1-1 CC).
Gately provided the Bullets with all the scoring they would need when, in the 33rd minute, he punched in a loose ball in the box for his first goal of the season and the second of his career.
The Mules held a slim 7-6 shot advantage in the opening half, when each keeper made one save.
DePontes provided an insurance tally in the 54th minute, taking a feed from freshman
Matt Stine (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and depositing a low shot into the left side of the net for his third goal of the year.
Muhlenberg outshot the Bullets 7-4 in the second stanza, but that's when Como made three of his saves as Gettysburg held the Mules scoreless for the first time since a 3-0 win in 2002.
Muhlenberg finished with advantages in shots (14-10) and corner kicks (10-5).
Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action on Wednesday, when it hosts Johns Hopkins University at 7 p.m.
