Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior
Julia Ramsey (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) gave her team the lead with two early goals, but Frostburg State University answered with a pair of tallies and the Bullets settled for a 2-2 tie in non-conference women's soccer action at a windy Clark Field Wednesday afternoon.
Gettysburg (4-1-3) outshot the Bobcats 28-13, but Paige Gray made 11 saves for Frostburg (5-5-1).
Ramsey struck first in the 10th minute, accepting a cross from junior
Hannah Theurer (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) and blasting in a shot from the middle of the box for her first goal of the season. Then 12 minutes later, Ramsey picked up the ball in the upper left part of the box and went high again, putting the Bullets up 2-0 midway through the stanza.
The Bobcats cut the deficit in half when, from the right wing, Leah Yurko sent home a high-arching, long-range shot that settled just inside the left post. Frostburg then pulled even with eight seconds left in the period, when Danielle Ferris headed in a cross from Melanie Bell to make it a 2-2 game at the half.
Paige Gray made a game-saving save for Frostburg in the 79th minute, diving to her right to stop a rip from Theurer.
Gettysburg had three good looks at the goal in just over a minute late in the first overtime, but Gray saved all three. Senior
Lauren Schapiro (Samford, Conn./Samford) flipped a shot from the left wing off a free kick before Theurer reeled off a pair of shots inside the box, the first of which was saved by Gray while she was on the ground.
Eliza Gray turned in a spectacular save of her own early in the second overtime, leaping high for a one-handed deflection on a shot from Yurko. She finished with four saves.
Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, when it hosts 22nd-ranked Haverford College at 4 p.m.
