Box Score YORK, Pa. – Freshman
Matt Stine (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) made his first collegiate goal a memorable one, scoring the game-winner in the 79th minute off an assist from classmate
Kingsley Nzekwe (Greensboro, N.C./New Garden Friends School) to lift the Gettysburg College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at York (Pa.) College in a non-conference match Friday afternoon.
The contest was delayed an hour and 27 minutes midway through the opening half due to lightning.
With the win, the Bullets earned their first victory over York since 2003, ending an eight-match winless streak versus the Spartans.
From deep in the left corner, Nzekwe crossed the ball to a streaking Stine, who punched it into the right side of the net.
The Spartans threatened late, taking three shots in the final six minutes, but none were on goal.
Junior
Peter Como (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) needed to make just one save to earn the shutout for the Bullets while Charlie Johnson stopped three shots for York (1-1).
York held a slight edge 11-8 edge in shots.
Gettysburg returns to the pitch on Wednesday, when it hosts Eastern Mennonite University in a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
